Day 3, A visit to Auschwitz:

Yesterday we bought tickets for a visit to Auschwitz, a terrible place, but we must see it.

Google Map over Krakow:

Krakow:

The visit to Auschwitz was by bus, a mini bus picked us up at the hotel and took us to the main bus. It's 70 km for the bus to drive in one direction.

Through the bus window I got this photo, but I don't know what building it is.

Close to Auschwitz we see this, looks to be a museum with mopeds, maybe it had been interesting to visit. It was not so easy to take us to this place. The flooding in earlier weeks has destroyed some of the roads.

Auschwitz concentration camp:

Our bus was full of people who want to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp, here we are waiting for our guide. I don't write any text to the images, they speak for themselves.

Auschweitz II Birkenau:

The bus took us to another camp 3 km away, it was built in just a month after the first one.

This is the gate to Auschwitz II Birkenau. We could read that at these two places 1'300'000 people died.

We see these two bicycles, not all of the visitors came by bus. They looks to be far away travelers.

At Wikipedia you find more information about Auschwitz concentration camp:

The bus now take us back to Krakow, we left the bus at the center, we didn't want to go back to our hotel room yet.

Back to Krakow we felt that we must plan for something more positive next day. We bought tickets for a visit to a salt mine.

On the walk we found this, Bl. Stanislaw Kazimierczyk, is it a concert, or ?

Caffe Vergnano, a coffee shop. I don't remember if we took a cup of coffee, but I'm sure that I didn't, I never drink coffee.
