Day 3, From Malaga to Almeria

After two days in Malaga it's time for us to move to the next city, now we want to visit, Almeria. Looking through the busses that were available and found an early bus that we could take.

On the Almeria bus:

The bus depart 9 am in the morning, we have a ten minute walk from the department to the bus station and we were there in time.

From Malaga to Almeria it's 210 km. We have already visit Nerja and Almunecar on an earlier trip 2016 and skip these cities on this trip.

From the bus we had great views over the sea, in the other direction the mountains.

Almeria:

After three hours on the bus we came to Almeria, lot of traffic on the main road. Was it correct decision to visit this town?

The bus station was behind this old railway station, the railway is gone for long time ago.

P. de Almeria:

We have booked a hotel in center of the old town of Almeria. We had a 15 minute walk from the bus station to the hotel.

Parroquia de san Sebastian:

After we had installed us on the hotel we went out to take a look on the city and visit some places that we planned for.

P. de Almeria:

This parade street is all new, on Google map there is a street here for cars and no fountain. Much better today.

There are many old buildings preserved in this area.

Parroquia de San Pedro Apostol:

We are on the way to the cathedral and found this one on a big square, Plaza de San Pedro.

Plaza de San Pedro:

In the square stands a fountain made of white marble.

Cathedral Encarnacio de Almeria:

The cathedral we looked for, Cathredal Encarnacio de Almeriabuilt from 1524 to 1562. Now we are not far from the fortress which is a big attraction of Almeria.

Take out the direction to the fortress Alcazaba de Almeria.

Torre de la Justicia:

We found the fortress a couple of blocks away from the cathedral. A very big and impressive fortress, Alcazaba of Almeria.

Climb up the stairs to the first level and already now we got an impressive view over the town and its harbor.

There are more stairs to climb to the higher levels.

The fortress was built by the Moors and they are known for their water technology.

There are terraces all the way up to the top but we followed the wall.

From the opening in the wall we could get a view over the sea.

Muralla Norte:

There are not only one fortress here, a wall connect this fortress to the North fortress. That fortress was closed today. In the valley there is a park.

We continue along the stairs to the top. Water flows through the stairs.

Top level, here is an archeological site partly.

The Moors master the water technology. A bit strange, we are on a top of a hill, still there is water here.

A triple arrangement of water ejectors.

The archaeological area where they still find new ancient things.

A last gate take us out on a square.

Once they must have had canons here to protect the city.

Monumento a los Martires de la Libertad:

A long day walking and we feel that we need some rest on the hotel. We took the shortest way back to the hotel through the Plaza de la Constitucion.

Mercado Central:

Later in the evening we got out to have something to eat. Found the Almeria's Mercado Central, closed at evening. It was constructed 1897 by Antonio Martinez Perez y Trinidad Cuartara.
