Day 9, From San Pedro del Pinatar to Alicante

Time to leave San Pedro del Pinatar, we start with a walk along the beach to next village where we take the bus from.

Parque Juan Ramon Jimenez:

From our hotel to the park Juan Ramon Jimenez we have a walk of 1 km. It was here we turned around yesterday's evening walk. From here there is another 2.5 km walk to Torre Vigia de la Horadada.

On this stretch of the walk we can only see the sea in a few openings in the grassy dunes.

Far away in the background we see the village we are heading to.

During the last few days of our trip it has been getting warmer, usually 32 degrees Celsius. Then it feels good to take a break and eat an ice cream.

After the icecream, back to the beach walk.

Rambla del Beso:

Here too, they have these overflow channels that lead the rainwater out into the sea.

Now we have reached our goal with the walk, to visit the tower on the cape, and now we can see the outlines of the tower.

Plaza Campomor:

Here in the park with a view of the sea we find a bench to rest on. We sit down in the narrow strip of shade that the palm tree provides.

A look back towards the beach towards San Pedro Pinatar that we walked along this morning.

The last beach until we reach the tower Torre Vigia de la Horadada.

Torre de la Horadada:

Now we are inside the village of Torre de la Horadada, it gives a very nice feeling in the neighborhoods facing the harbor.

Playa de El Puerto:

The beach here in the village is called Playa de El Puerto.

There is also a large marina here for all recreational boats.

Now a visit to the defense tower, but we find it to be private.

These kind of defense towers where along the coast to protect the cities from pirates and others. They were built in the 16th century, they use fires to signaling between the towers.

The beach Playa del Conde, it's in front of the tower we just visit. When done this we were ready to have a lunchbreake, we found a restaurant with ocen view.

Now the real challenge, finding the bus that will take us on to Alicante. We only have a vague idea of where the bus stops and its departure times are uncertain to say the least. The stop is supposed to be a few hundred meters up this street.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

We start walking up the street, found a big flower, more a tree.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

Two hundred meters left to the bus stop. We also find a stop there, but it doesn't look like it has been used for many years. We stand there and wonder what to do, should we walk on to the next village which is bigger, or what? However, while we are standing there and planning, the bus arrives. The bus goes all the way to Alicante, but we wanted to make a stop in Torrevieja, we heard so much about this town so want to see it. Maybe even stay one night, we have the time for that.

Map, From San Pedro Pinatar to Torrevieja:

We divided this bus trip in two parts, the first with a short stop in Torreviaje, 18 km.

At Wikipedia you find more information about Torrevieja:

The bus stops a while at Zenia, a bigger station.

Torrevieja:

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

As we approach Torrevieja we are already horrified, what a lot of traffic and no old nice buildings we see to look at. Finally the bus has arrived at the bus station, we have been following the bus's journey on the GPS the whole time so we don't get off at the wrong station.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

When we leave the bus station we look for something interesting to see. But finding nothing, we decide to go down to the beach. Here we find to our delight that it is quite nice.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

We don't feel like we want to live in Torrevieja, it will be enough for us to have dinner here and then continue on a bus to Alicante.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

We start looking for a good restaurant with good food and a view of the sea. We find an Italian restaurant and we order a couple of pasta dishes.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

After the delicious dinner we go back to the bus station to find the bus that can take us to Alicante. Luckily for us, the bus we are going on arrives at the same time as us.

Map, From Torrevieja to Alicante:

The second bus trip, from Torreviaje to Alicante, 50 km.

At Wikipedia you find more information about Alicante:

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

The distance between Torrevieja and Alicante is 50 km. After an hour we can see Alicante in front of us. Here we pass one of the saltwater lakes that lie outside Alicante.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

Here they have stored pure salt in large mounds. We arrive in central Alicante at 6:30 PM.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

We booked our hotel so the location is close to the airport bus stop. Our flight leaves at 6 am, but not for 2 days so we have time to walk around Alicante. Here we study the timetable for the airport buses.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

In the evening we walk around the city. Among other things, we look for a historical museum we want to visit. The last time we visited Alicante it was closed the days we were here, but tomorrow it will be open from 10 am to 2 pm.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

We had already eaten dinner in Torrevieja, but we need something to drink. We stop at a pub in a square in the old town. Then we go back to our hotel.

Spain, From Malaga to Alicante, 2026

A couple of blocks away, here towards the sea stands a very tall hotel. Vid stayed at the top in a similar hotel the last time we visited Alicante.
