|
A cruise with the steamer S/S Stockholm, May 2025:Strandvägen pier 16:![]() We are four friends who have booked a table on this ship to have a dinner. We are lucky with the weather, a bit cold but sunny. More information about S/S Stockholm:
I have chosen the Swedish version because there are so much more information in that language, but it's possible to change to English from each page. ![]() Gunilla, Jan, me and Lars. Lars arrived in last minute and now we are ready for our cruise. Onboard:![]() This ship is almost hundred years old and I love this wooden interior it has been restored to. ![]() Are we on the booking list ? Yes and our table is on the second floor. ![]() Climb upwards the stairs and enjoy the interior. ![]() The ship has a bar too. On the go to the archipelago:![]() Now the ship has left the dock and we pass the Gröna Lund amusement park. ![]() I'll start with a herring buffet. ![]() A big cruiser is coming toward us, Viking Glory. After less than three hour we meet this ship again in the other direction with new passengers. ![]() Not far from Stockholm city we have the island Fjäderholmarna. Here on the island they have gathered many restaurants and there are boats going back and forth from Stockholm city all the time. Already in the 1740s there was an Inn here. More to read about Fjäderholmarna:

![]() Here the entrance to Skurusundet and in front of us we have the island of Sveriges Holme, to the left outside the picture is Danmarks Holme. More information about the islands:
![]() Originally, this ship was built to deliver mail between the mainland and Öland and at that time the ships' was S/S Öland. ![]() Here we are passing by Kummelnäs at Värmdö with lot of beautiful summerhouses. ![]() From the beginning this ship was 36 meter long, in 1958 they extended it to 48 meter. Vaxholm fortress:![]() The turning point of our cruise, Vaxholm. ![]() The aft cabin, this evening there wasn't many people onboard and it's empty here. ![]() Real boats have chimneys. ![]() Note that the lifeboats have a fake exterior to make them look like they did in the past. ![]() Nacka Strand, once it was a car manufactor here. Now we are almost back from where we started. More information about Nacka Strand:
![]() Lower deck, there are a lot of space for the passengers here. |

Machine room:![]() Behind the wall, the heart of the ship, the machine room. It still has its steam machine left, but today they has a complement of two twin diesel engines. 2x Volvo Penta TAMD 163A 662 kW. It's the diesel engines that are running on this tour. ![]() It has a triple steam machine and here we can see two of the three cylinders. I don't know how many horse power it has but it can give the ship a top speed of 11 knots.
![]() At the stern of the ship it's even more rooms. ![]() If I understand correct it was an empty hull they bought and all these wooden interior is of new design in old style. ![]() All these small details make the ship nice to cruise with. ![]() The ships original name was S/S Öland. They have saved the original letters, made of brass I think. There are some historical photos to look at here. ![]() Back home to pier 16 at Strandvägen after three lovely hours out on the sea. Maybe you got inspired to take a cruise with this old ship, you find it here: Strömma S/S Stockholm |
