My girlfriend's travels in Asia:
Gunilla's Trek in Tibet

A ten days trek in Tibet

Planning our trip:

Me and 15 other girls travelled with the Green Lady from Dalarna - Kerstin Åsberg TG Travel ("Tant Gröns tjejresor" in Swedish).

Map over Tibet:

Tibet

(this is a new page and under work, more text will come later)

From Kathmandu in Nepal we came to Lhasa in Tibet where we started our trek.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

Market place in Lhasa capital city of Tibet. Lhasa is 3600 meter above sea level.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

In the market place you can find lot of exotic spies and fruits.

One of all market streets.

Cheese from yak.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

Lot of spices. We stayed in Lhasa for two days to acclimatize to the high altitude. It's very important to get used with the thin air, otherwise it can be very dangerouse. Two of the girls suffered from the altitude sickness. One got oxygen and the other had to go down.

The Jeeps and our drivers that took us to our first stop, the lake Namtso at 4700 meters.

Our drivers needed a rest and drink some yak butter tea.

In Tibet there are lots of prayer flags. When the flags blow in the wind, it means that god is reading the prayers.

True yaks can only be found at high altitudes, this is one of them.

The light and color isn't what we are used to.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

First view of Mount Everest, 8848 meters high!

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

On our way up to basecamp we passed a drinking yak.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

It's a short walk but due to the high altitude it is breathtaking.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

A memory stone, people who walk up to basecamp place a stone here in memory of everyone who has died on the mountain.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

Another pile of stones, it makes you think about the danger of this walk.

Gunilla's trek in Tibet

The Inn Tingri where we stayed one of the nights at. After being at this high altitude for a long time we had accumulated a lot of white blood cells, when coming down at lower altitude you feel extremely energetic in your legs.
