Comment : Taken from my balcony, this comet was great, I took several photos of it. I just wish I had taken it from a darker place.

Date : 2013-04-06
Image process tool : Siril, Gimp, Irfanview
Processing : synthetic bias and flats
Site : Sweden, Stockholm, Hagsätra. Bortle Class 9
Comment : 11 years later I processed the image once again, now with more modern tools. Siril for pre processing and Gimp for fine tuning. I didn't have correct flats for f/6.3 and made a special one of the f/4.5 flat I had, also the bias is replaced wit a constant, =127 which is correct for this 12-bit camera. I have suppressed the stars a bit to get better focus on the comet. The colors were problematic and I chose to convert it to monochrome. Better ? Maybe the tail is more details in now, but what I did with the old tools that's much less advanced wasn't a bad job.

Comment : A test how to get something from the other photos I took with more modern software. One problem with this camera was to handle the red channel. I'm not sure why, what's different with this old camera is that it only had 12-bit resolution. A guess can be that it's not linear.

Comment : During the night the comet pass by close to the Andromeda galaxy. It had been much better if I had let the aperture to be fully open at f/4.5, softer but more photons collected.
